R.W. Sullivan has a long standing relationship with Harvard University, and has provided engineering services for countless projects. Two notable projects recently took place at the HU Biolab facility on Divinity Ave in Cambridge:
HU Biolabs-Zebrafish: The new 6,000 sq/ft Zebrafish Facility consisted of holding rooms for fish tanks, lab areas and fish sleep rooms. The design of the plumbing systems for this facility included a dedicated 1,000 gallon per day RO/DI water system to serve the 10,000 gallon fish holding tanks, and an independently piped brine waste water collection system. The electrical design included a dedicated emergency standby power transfer and distribution system to maintain the critical operations of the facility during power outages. The lighting design included a dimming system, which controls the lighting throughout the facility to simulate the gradual transition between day and night scenes. This project also included the renovation of the building operations offices and the building chemical and supplies stockroom and storage. Construction cost of this project has totaled over $12,000,000.
Biolabs-Standby Power Project: The Emergency Standby Power project is a multi-phase project to bring standby power to 250,000 sq/ft of lab space throughout the existing facility. Standby power is currently being distributed throughout the building, providing each lab space with the emergency and standby power necessary to maintain critical equipment and operations. The project is currently in its final stage of design and construction and upon completion the new system will power all critical pieces of equipment while providing additional capacity throughout the facility. The estimated construction cost is $5,000,000.
