The Frisbie Memorial Hospital expansion/renovation project consisted of a 90,000 sq/ft addition and a 25,000 sq/ft renovation to the existing medical center. The new program included medical/surgical areas, critical care areas, a maternity ward, operating rooms, an endoscopy suite, cardiac care department, oncology treatment and support services. The construction cost of the project was approximately $30 million.
The HVAC design for the facility includes heating, cooling, ventilation and exhaust systems. For the new addition, temperature and ventilation system controls were installed with a direct digital control (DDC) system. A new stand alone boiler and interconnecting steam piping addresses the new heating and domestic hot water needs. A new 400 ton cooling tower system was provided and integrated with the existing water cooled chiller plant. The plumbing design for the facility included sanitary, water, storm, natural gas, and waste piping systems. The medical gases infrastructure was replaced and upgraded. The Fire Protection scope of work included modifications to the existing sprinkler system and coordination of the new head locations with the new and existing ceiling plans. The Electrical design included the removal of existing systems and all new lighting, power (normal and emergency), nurse call, fire alarm and emergency lighting/signage systems. The new electrical infrastructure included a 2500A 480/277V switchboard, which services all the normal power and the automatic transfer switches that feed the life safety, critical, and equipment distribution panels, new connection to existing generator synchronizing gear was also supplied. The total construction cost was approximately $30 million and was completed in 2008.
